Stand Strong Together: Riders Minds Calls on Equestrian Community to Unite

This August, Riders Minds is encouraging the equestrian community to come together for Riders Minds Day, taking place on 9 August, with this year’s inspiring theme: Stand Strong.

The annual awareness day invites everyone involved with horses to wear purple in support of mental health, helping to spark important conversations, reduce stigma, and remind those within the equestrian world that support is always available.

Life with horses can be incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with unique pressures. Long hours, financial uncertainty, the physical demands of caring for horses, and the expectation to keep going can all take their toll. For many working as grooms, the demands of caring for horses often come before caring for themselves, while self-employed coaches, riders, freelancers and equine professionals can face the added stress of inconsistent income, working in isolation and the pressure of running a business alongside their day-to-day responsibilities.

Whatever your role within the industry, Riders Minds believes that protecting mental wellbeing is a shared responsibility. This year’s Stand Strong campaign celebrates the strength that comes from supporting one another, speaking openly about mental health, and recognising that asking for help is a sign of courage rather than weakness.

Riders Minds Chair and Founder, Victoria Musson, said:

“Standing strong doesn’t mean facing life’s challenges alone. True strength comes from reaching out, listening without judgement, showing kindness, and reminding one another that we all matter. Riders Minds Day is about bringing our community together, encouraging open conversations around mental health, and letting every equestrian know that support is always available. Together, we can build a stronger, kinder and more compassionate equestrian community where no one feels they have to struggle in silence.”

Throughout Riders Minds Day, individuals, businesses and organisations across the equestrian industry are encouraged to take part by wearing purple, checking in on friends and colleagues, starting conversations about mental wellbeing, and helping to raise awareness of the support available through Riders Minds.

The campaign continues to champion the message of #EquestriansTogether, recognising that the strongest equestrian community is one where everyone feels valued, heard and supported, regardless of their role.

Alongside the awareness day itself, Riders Minds is also inviting supporters to become fundraisers throughout August. Whether taking on a personal challenge, organising a yard event or hosting a fundraising activity, every contribution helps strengthen the charity’s work and reinforces the message that, together, the equestrian community is stronger.
